The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

Our trip across the famous 17.6 mile landmark, the....

This modern engineering wonder and important travel convenience was for lack of a better word, SO COOL! Crossing over and under open waters where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean, the Bridge-Tunnel provides a direct link between Southeastern Virginia and the Delmarva Peninsula (Delaware plus the Eastern Shore counties in Maryland and Virginia), and cuts 95 miles from the journey between Virginia Beach and points north of Wilmington, Delaware. Following its opening on April 15, 1964, the Bridge-Tunnel was selected "One of the Seven Engineering Wonders of the Modern World" Ok so enough with the history lesson, onto the photos....

Driving on the bridge getting ready to go into one of the tunnels.

Ok, so I didn't actually take this photo. I found it online. But I thought it was so cool how it shows this huge freight liner cross the water where the bridge turns into a tunnel and goes under water.

Photo Op!

Stopping for a lunch break at the Seagull Restaurant on the pier. For what you ask? Crab cakes!

Sorry, I forgot to get a "real" picture of the
restaurant.

For those of you who have stopped at the Seagull Restaurant on the pier, what is up with these creepy statues in there!!

Mount Trashmore Park

What takes up 165 acres, is 60 feet high and over 800 feet long and was built over an old land dump? Why it's, Mount Trashmore Park!!! (Hence the name).

Don't let its stinky name fool you, this monstrosity of a park is pretty sweet! A few Sundays ago we had record high temperatures of 77 degrees (I think it was hotter here then in Florida). When temperatures climb this high after miserable 20-30 degree weather, everyone, and I mean everyone, ventures outside. So in true Virginia Beach fashion I ventured out to check out Mount Trashmore Park. With Emma in hand and our new friends Erica and her handsome dog Marley, we set out to get a little exercise, sun and fun!

And what fun we had! There is a huge hiking/biking trail that circles Lake Trashmore...

2 skate boarding parks...

a huge tot lot...

basketballs courts, volleyballs courts, picnic areas, kite flying areas...

and paddle boats on the lake in the spring and summer.

We had so much fun1 I try to go back every weekend, weather permitting. And the best news is this amazing park is a 1/2 mile from our house!

Let It Snow!

Well I didn't get the snow day I was hoping for but, I did get to see TONS of snow while driving from Virgnia to Florida. The last time I saw snow was when I was 13 years old. So you can imagine how excited I was seeing a sea of white on our drive. I made Steve pull the car over so Emma and I could go play.....

Posh Puppy Eh!

Normally when you mention the topic of clothes for a dog my husband cringes. But with a new climate to get used to, we couldn't forget about how our little Emma would adjust. I had to get pretty creative if I was going to pull off this new fashion ensemble without Steve making his ever so attractive "cringe" face. After much searching online I stumbled upon the Roots.com website where I was shocked to find a super cute, pink, dog hoodie! For those of you who don't know the brand Roots, (and why should you if you're not from there?) it is a Canadian clothing line that you could compare in popularity to Victoria Secret's PINK line. Girls here plaster there booties with PINK and girls in Canada plaster theirs with ROOTS.

So, imagine my utter happiness when I found a dog hoodie with ROOTS on the back. My ever proud and loyal Canadian husband couldn't resist seeing Emma in a pink ROOTS hoodie, could he?

Well, relationships are all about compromise and I think I did a pretty good job here! Now she is ready to bare the cold weather in style!!

The Big Chill

The arctic air came through with a bang and left everything frozen over! What you're looking at is supposed to be the rock fountains at the entrance to our subdivision. They usually spurt water that runs through the rocks. Well, not this weekend!
